Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of uncooked white rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 pound of beef (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper (red or green), thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the uncooked white rice under cold water in a fine-mesh strainer to remove excess starch.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of water. Add a pinch of salt.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until tender and water is absorbed.
  4. Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and set aside.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, and sesame oil. Mix well and let marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened.
  7. Add minced garlic and stir-fry for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  8. Push vegetables to one side and add marinated beef to the other side. Sear for 2-3 minutes without stirring.
  9. Stir everything together and cook for another 3-4 minutes until beef is cooked through. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.
  10. Place a scoop of fluffy rice in each serving bowl.
  11. Top with a portion of the beef and vegetable mixture.
  12. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Optionally, drizzle with chili oil or add sliced jalapeños for heat.
  13. Serve immediately while hot, with additional soy sauce or chili sauce on the side. Pairs well with steamed vegetables or a cucumber salad.
  14. Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator. Beef lasts up to 3 days, rice for 4-5 days.
  15. Reheat separately in the microwave, adding a splash of water to the rice to regain fluffiness.

Notes

  • Choose high-quality beef for the best flavor and tenderness.
  • Customize vegetables based on preference; broccoli or snap peas work well.
