Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of uncooked white rice
- 2 cups of water
- 1 pound of beef (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper (red or green), thinly sliced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the uncooked white rice under cold water in a fine-mesh strainer to remove excess starch.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of water. Add a pinch of salt.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until tender and water is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, and sesame oil. Mix well and let marinate for 10-15 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened.
- Add minced garlic and stir-fry for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Push vegetables to one side and add marinated beef to the other side. Sear for 2-3 minutes without stirring.
- Stir everything together and cook for another 3-4 minutes until beef is cooked through. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.
- Place a scoop of fluffy rice in each serving bowl.
- Top with a portion of the beef and vegetable mixture.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Optionally, drizzle with chili oil or add sliced jalapeños for heat.
- Serve immediately while hot, with additional soy sauce or chili sauce on the side. Pairs well with steamed vegetables or a cucumber salad.
- Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator. Beef lasts up to 3 days, rice for 4-5 days.
- Reheat separately in the microwave, adding a splash of water to the rice to regain fluffiness.
Notes
- Choose high-quality beef for the best flavor and tenderness.
- Customize vegetables based on preference; broccoli or snap peas work well.
