Description

This Chinese Ground Beef Stir Fry is a quick and delicious weeknight meal featuring tender ground beef and a colorful mix of vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, snap peas, and carrots, all coated in a savory sauce. Serve it over rice or noodles for a satisfying dish that’s both flavorful and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color you prefer)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup snap peas
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. Mince the garlic and ginger, slice the bell pepper, cut the broccoli into small florets, julienne the carrot, and chop the green onions (separating the white parts from the green tops). In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, and beef broth (or water) to create the sauce mixture.
  2. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and let it heat for about a minute. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Brown for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper. Once cooked, remove the beef from the skillet and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  3. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the sliced bell pepper, broccoli florets, snap peas, and julienned carrot. Stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  4. Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and vegetables, stirring to coat evenly. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens. If too thick, add a splash more beef broth or water.
  5. Drizzle sesame oil over the stir fry and stir well. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped green onion tops. Serve over cooked rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preference or what you have on hand.
  • For a spicier kick, consider adding red pepper flakes or sliced chili peppers.
