Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 cup chocolate chip cookie dough (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Stir occasionally, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar. Whisk until smooth.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips and optional chopped nuts.
- If using store-bought cookie dough, soften it at room temperature. For homemade, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla, then mix in flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Chill homemade cookie dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
- Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Pour brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie batter, flattening slightly if desired.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, until edges are set and center is slightly gooey. A toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove from oven and let cool in the pan before slicing into bars.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider using dark chocolate cocoa powder.
- You can customize the cookie dough layer by adding different mix-ins like nuts or dried fruit.
