Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread (or any bread of your choice)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for the glaze)
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese (softened, for the glaze)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for the glaze)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the glaze)
- Optional: maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and whisk until smooth.
- Add 1 cup of whole milk to the eggs and mix well.
- Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, followed by 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until combined and slightly frothy.
- Take 8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread. Thicker slices work best for soaking.
- If the bread is stale, it will absorb the batter better. If fresh, let it sit out for about 30 minutes to dry.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides. Soak for about 10-15 seconds on each side.
- Place the soaked slices on a plate or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- In a large skillet or griddle, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat.
- Carefully place the soaked bread slices in the skillet, avoiding overcrowding.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
- Transfer cooked French toast to a warm plate or keep in a low oven (around 200°F) while finishing the rest.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons softened cream cheese.
- Add 1 tablespoon of milk and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy, adjusting consistency with more milk if needed.
- Serve a slice of Cinnamon Roll French Toast on a plate.
- Drizzle the cream cheese glaze generously over the top.
- Optionally, sprinkle extra cinnamon on top.
- Serve with maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream on the side.
Notes
- For best results, use slightly stale bread for better absorption of the batter.
- Feel free to customize the glaze by adding more powdered sugar for sweetness or adjusting the milk for desired thickness.
