Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (15.25 oz) chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups milk
- 1 container (12 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
- Gummy worms (for decoration)
- Small flower pots (optional, for serving)
- Edible soil (optional, for extra decoration)
Instructions
- Place the chocolate sandwich cookies in a large zip-top bag. Seal tightly, removing as much air as possible.
- Crush the cookies into fine crumbs using a rolling pin or heavy object. Set aside about 1 cup of crumbs for later use.
- Pour the remaining cookie crumbs into a mixing bowl to serve as the base for the dirt cake.
- In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until fully combined and creamy.
- In another bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and milk for about 2 minutes until thickened.
- Gently fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture until combined.
- Fold in the thawed whipped topping until everything is well mixed and fluffy.
- Layer cookie crumbs at the bottom of your serving container (flower pots or a trifle dish).
- Spoon a layer of the cream cheese mixture over the crumbs, spreading evenly.
- Repeat the layering process (cookie crumbs, cream cheese mixture) until you reach the top, aiming for about three layers.
- Finish with a final layer of cookie crumbs on top.
- Sprinkle the reserved cookie crumbs over the top layer for a dirt effect.
- Add gummy worms on top, letting some hang over the edges for a playful look.
- Optionally, sprinkle edible soil or crushed chocolate cookies around the worms for added decoration.
- Cover the cake with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (overnight is best).
- Serve directly in flower pots or scoop portions into individual dishes.
- Serve with additional gummy worms or fresh fruit like strawberries for color.
- Consider adding small edible flowers or chocolate decorations for a garden theme.
- Enjoy your delicious dirt cake with friends and family!
- Store any leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator. It should stay fresh for up to 3 days.
