Description

Enjoy a whimsical Dirt Cake that layers creamy goodness with chocolate cookie crumbs, resembling a garden. Topped with playful gummy worms, this delightful dessert is perfect for parties and gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (15.25 oz) chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 container (12 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
  • Gummy worms (for decoration)
  • Small flower pots (optional, for serving)
  • Edible soil (optional, for extra decoration)

Instructions

  1. Place the chocolate sandwich cookies in a large zip-top bag. Seal tightly, removing as much air as possible.
  2. Crush the cookies into fine crumbs using a rolling pin or heavy object. Set aside about 1 cup of crumbs for later use.
  3. Pour the remaining cookie crumbs into a mixing bowl to serve as the base for the dirt cake.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy (about 2-3 minutes).
  5. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until fully combined and creamy.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and milk for about 2 minutes until thickened.
  7. Gently fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture until combined.
  8. Fold in the thawed whipped topping until everything is well mixed and fluffy.
  9. Layer cookie crumbs at the bottom of your serving container (flower pots or a trifle dish).
  10. Spoon a layer of the cream cheese mixture over the crumbs, spreading evenly.
  11. Repeat the layering process (cookie crumbs, cream cheese mixture) until you reach the top, aiming for about three layers.
  12. Finish with a final layer of cookie crumbs on top.
  13. Sprinkle the reserved cookie crumbs over the top layer for a dirt effect.
  14. Add gummy worms on top, letting some hang over the edges for a playful look.
  15. Optionally, sprinkle edible soil or crushed chocolate cookies around the worms for added decoration.
  16. Cover the cake with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (overnight is best).
  17. Serve directly in flower pots or scoop portions into individual dishes.
  18. Serve with additional gummy worms or fresh fruit like strawberries for color.
  19. Consider adding small edible flowers or chocolate decorations for a garden theme.
  20. Enjoy your delicious dirt cake with friends and family!
  21. Store any leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator. It should stay fresh for up to 3 days.
