Ground Beef Cabbage Stir-Fry

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color you prefer)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced or grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Preparing the Ingredients

1. Start by gathering all your ingredients. This makes the cooking process smoother and more enjoyable. 2. Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces. I like to remove the core first, then slice the leaves into strips. 3. Dice the onion and slice the bell pepper. If you’re using a colorful bell pepper, it adds a nice visual appeal to the dish. 4. Mince the garlic and ginger. Fresh garlic and ginger really elevate the flavor of the stir-fry, so I recommend using fresh rather than powdered. 5. Set all your prepared ingredients aside. It’s helpful to have everything within reach when you start cooking.

Cooking the Ground Beef

6. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. I usually let the oil heat for about a minute before adding anything. 7. Once the oil is hot, add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. I like to cook it until it’s browned and no longer pink, which usually takes about 5-7 minutes. 8. As the beef cooks, season it with a pinch of salt and pepper. This helps to build flavor right from the start. 9. Once the beef is browned, use a slotted spoon to remove it from the skillet and set it aside on a plate. Leave the drippings in the pan; they add flavor to the vegetables.

Sautéing the Vegetables

10. In the same skillet, add the diced onion and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes translucent. The aroma of the onion cooking is one of my favorite parts! 11. Next, add the minced garlic and ginger. Stir them in and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic, as it can turn bitter. 12. Add the sliced bell pepper to the skillet and cook for another 2-3 minutes until it starts to soften. 13. Now, it’s time to add the chopped cabbage. I usually add it in batches if my skillet is small, as it will wilt down significantly. Stir it in and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but still has a bit of crunch.

Combining Everything

14. Once the cabbage is cooked to your liking, return the cooked ground beef to the skillet. Stir everything together to combine. 15. Pour in the soy sauce and oyster sauce (if using). These sauces add a savory depth to the dish. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly coated. 16. Drizzle the sesame oil over the stir-fry. This adds a lovely nutty flavor that complements the other ingredients beautifully. 17. Taste the stir-fry and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You can add more soy sauce, salt, or pepper according to your preference.

Finishing Touches

18. Once everything is well combined and heated through, remove the skillet from the heat. 19. Transfer the stir-fry to a serving dish. I like to garnish it with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added texture and flavor. 20. Serve the ground beef cabbage stir-fry hot, either on its own or over a bed of rice or noodles if you prefer.

Storage and Reheating

21. If you have leftovers, let the stir-fry cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. 22. To reheat, simply place it in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through, or microwave it in short intervals, stirring in between to ensure even heating. This ground beef cabbage stir-fry is not only quick and easy to make, but it’s also packed with flavor and nutrients. I love how versatile it is; you can easily swap out the vegetables based on what you have on Ground Beef Cabbage Stir-Fry

Conclusion:

In summary, this Ground Beef Cabbage Stir-Fry is a must-try for anyone looking to whip up a quick, delicious, and nutritious meal. The combination of savory ground beef and crisp cabbage creates a delightful texture and flavor that is sure to please even the pickiest eaters. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to incorporate more vegetables into your diet without sacrificing taste! For serving suggestions, I love to pair this stir-fry with a side of steamed rice or quinoa to soak up all the delicious juices. You can also serve it over a bed of noodles for a heartier option. If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding in some sliced bell peppers, carrots, or even a sprinkle of sesame seeds for an extra crunch. The beauty of this recipe is its versatility; you can easily customize it to suit your taste preferences or whatever ingredients you have on hand.
